Jomidar Mahal Littleport Takeaway Review

I decided I needed to see my older brother, as I hadn’t seen him for a long time. Football, England v Croatia, and a takeaway felt like the perfect excuse to go.

He lives in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, and my energy levels haven’t been the greatest because of CFS, so I don’t do as much as I used to. This was really my first proper long trip in about a year and a half.

☕ A Familiar Face At North Station

It was good to refresh the memory. Even the Coffee Link guy at the till remembered who I was at North Station, so that was nice. We had a little chat, as we always did, and that eased my nerves a bit.

🥘 Choosing Jomidar Mahal

We already kind of knew where we were going for takeaway, as, like usual, I study them all before going. There’s not a great choice, as it’s Littleport, but you can get some Ely restaurants. They are mainly chains though.

Jomidar Mahal had a menu which wasn’t just a typical Indian restaurant menu, so that stood out a lot, and my brother hadn’t tried it either. So we were both looking forward to trying it out.

We ordered through Just Eat and picked it up when we took my brother’s dog for her nightly walk.

🌶️ Lahori Lamb Special Chef’s Special

A lot of options had dairy, but at least it listed it, so that made it easy to see what I could have. I went with the Lahori Lamb Special Chef’s Special, which was priced at £11.95, the same as my brother’s curry.

It was described as: “Fairly spicy, cooked in a medium sauce with green peppers, tomatoes and onions with a touch of garam masala.”

I didn’t want it too hot, as I was travelling back the next day, and this had the exact heat and spice I wanted. It was a nice medium gravy-style curry dish, and I was very happy with mine.

🫑 Big Bits Of Pepper, Not Frozen Veg

It was delicious. The main standout was that the veg wasn’t just frozen veg. It had big bits of peppers in the dish.

The lamb was a little chewy, but then it is lamb, and lamb is typically chewier than chicken etc. Overall, I was very pleased with my choice.

🥵 My Brother’s Sweaty Curry Moment

I did have a little try of my brother’s curry. He had the Patila Kushboo Chef’s Special. That was a very fruity, sweet and sour curry, and it was much hotter.

I gave my brother one look while he was eating it, and he was drenched in sweat facially haha.

🍚 Chapati And Special Rice

Otherwise, I had a chapati bread for £1.95 and shared a special rice for £4.50 with my brother.

😴 Worth It, But Wiped Out After

With the football being good that night, it was a very good day.

I went back home on the train and then was completely wiped for a few days, so I don’t have any plans to travel again for a long while haha.
